Tragic Pumpkin Demise

So yesterday I thought about making pumpkin pie, and with the encouragement of a few lovely commenters, and the sight of the last precious sugar pumpkin in my kitchen, I decided it needed to be done.

I had enough filling for two pies, and when they came out of the oven, they smelled so good I couldn’t wait to try them.

When I say I couldn’t wait, I really mean that. Pie is no joke, folks.

So … I went to put one in the fridge to make it cool faster, and then the neighbours heard a blood-curdling scream, because this happened:

My precious, precious pie! Gone!!!

I am not above admitting that I took a fork to a few of the bites on top.

… You can guess who was really happy about the accident.

I didn’t even try to stop her. Someone needed to enjoy the second-last real sugar pumpkin pie. All future pumpkin pies will come from cans. Sigh.

I collected the pie that fell in the fridge and I think I’ll let Trixie eat it tonight. I mean, I seriously considered eating it myself at the height of my grief, but now that I am beginning to recover, I do realize that would be a smidge unreasonable.

Ryan: “Did you at least get a picture of the mess?”

Me: “Obviously.”

I guess you know you’re a food blogger when…

OH NO!!!!! I’m so sorry this happened.

P.S. I would have taken the fork to the tasty bits on top of the mess too.

Ha! I’m sorry to laugh, but it is so true. I would’ve taken pics too! And I think it’s great that you admitted to taking a fork to the heap - I would’ve been right alongside you!

… I seriously think I have more “fail” food pictures on my phone/camera than I do successes! Call me clumsy! Oops!

Oh no! I have had that happen to me before too. So frustrating…and sad. I probably would have cried these days. Hormones get me all sorts of teary.
